Risk stays high into Wednesday, Oct 7. Tanker attacks in Hormuz are speeding up even as talks run through Qatar, Kyiv took a ballistic missile strike overnight, and a fast-strengthening Gulf storm now threatens the US coast.

Middle East: A projectile hit the tanker On Peace off Oman on Tuesday, injuring 12 of its 19 crew; Oman flew the injured to Khasab. UK Maritime Trade Operations has logged nine attacks in Hormuz so far this month, even as oil flows near prewar levels. Qatar is passing proposals between Washington and Tehran; Trump says the war is almost over, while Vice President Vance says Iran must cut enrichment. In Yemen, Saudi-backed forces say they hold Dhubab and the Bab el-Mandeb coast up to Mocha's outskirts; the Houthis deny it and fired at Saudi airports, with Riyadh confirming hits at Jazan and Najran.

Ukraine: Russia struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles in two waves overnight, killing two in the Darnytskyi district, hours after Zelensky warned a massive strike was coming. A guided bomb in Kharkiv on Monday reportedly killed six.

United States / energy: Tropical Storm Isaias formed in the Gulf and is forecast to become a hurricane Thursday, nearing the coast between southeastern Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle on Friday with 3 to 6 inches of rain; Florida declared an emergency in 25 counties. Brent is back above $101 on storm and Houthi risk, and US diesel stocks sit at a record seasonal low.

For USL readers: on the northern Gulf Coast, follow NHC updates today and top off water, fuel and medications before watches go up. Everyone else, keep fuel and winter plans current and avoid panic buying.
