How The Ultimate Survival Library uses cookies, and when Google Analytics is allowed to run.
A banner on each public page asks you to accept or reject analytics cookies. Both choices
are stored in a first-party cookie named usl_consent (the value is
granted or denied) for about six months. That cookie only
remembers the choice. It is not an advertising cookie.
The site also remembers display preferences, such as light or dark mode
(usl-theme), in a cookie or in this browser’s local storage. Those are not
analytics, and they are not sent to Google.
If you accept, the site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-0NZ83R0M14)
with Google Consent Mode. Analytics storage is denied until you accept, then updated to
granted. Advertising storage stays off: this site does not use Google ads.
After you accept, Google may set its own cookies (such as _ga) and receive
the pages you view, a rough sense of where the visit came from, and general device and
browser information, so we can see which parts of the library people use. Google processes
that data under its own terms. If you reject, the analytics script is not requested and
those cookies are not set. If you accepted earlier and then reject, the site asks Google
to stop and deletes the Analytics cookies it can see on this browser.
Separately, the site can send a page view to our own server for statistics we keep
ourselves. That note includes the page address and a random id stored in this browser. It
is not sent to Google, and it is not the usl_consent choice.
Accept and Reject do the same kind of job: one turns analytics on, the other leaves it off. The footer link Cookie settings opens the banner again so you can switch. When the six months are up, the banner asks again. We rely on your consent for Google Analytics.
If you create an account, we store the email address you give us so you can sign in. A message sent through the contact form is emailed to us so we can reply. That is separate from analytics cookies.
Questions about this page, a request to see what we hold, or a request to delete an account: email [email protected] or use the contact form. How the site is funded is on the disclosure page.
