Hormuz still choked · Europe on civil-defense watch · Ukraine intensifies
Three theaters remain hot overnight into Sept 21.
Middle East: Trackable weekend traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell again (about 17 commodity vessels vs ~37 the prior weekend), while the US–Iran stalemate and naval blockade keep energy risk elevated. Gulf producers are still moving oil via dark/shuttle routes; Houthi pressure on Saudi export alternatives (including Yanbu/East–West) continues to force more volume back toward Hormuz. US missions across the region remain on heightened alert.
Europe: Capitals are openly hardening for a wider Russia hybrid/escalation risk — civil-defense stockpile guidance in the UK, hospital prep in Germany, infrastructure protections in France, and Belarus exercises near NATO’s Suwałki Gap. Alliance messaging still treats a full-scale attack on NATO as not imminent, which is why this stays High, not Critical.
Ukraine: Heavy long-range drone exchanges continue. Moscow reported a very large strike wave on the capital during Russia’s parliamentary vote; Ukraine’s air force reported 172 Russian attack drones overnight with hits at multiple locations. No ceasefire.
For USL readers: keep plans current, watch energy/shipping prices, avoid panic buys. Multi-theater stress can move through fuel, freight, and alliance politics faster than headlines suggest.
